Global Head of Sales – Solar Full Time

Global Head of Sales. We are seeking a solar sales professional with Solar PV experience who is already based in South Africa or United Kingdom. Our client is a fast growing solar manufacturer headquartered in the UK that has developed a novel technology that enables rapid-deploy solar fields. These solar fields are one-of-a-kind that can be deployed into a wide range of applications. This technology is capable of producing the world’s cheapest solar energy – a statement that isn’t taken lightly. The technology has been designed by a world leader in solar, with over 10 GW of design track record. Best in class, this technology can bring sub 4 cent per kWh energy to challenging locations, and facilitate innovative business models including short-term power contracts. Be it mines in Australia, mini-grids in the Yukon, or utilities in Africa, the product has resonated with early market adopters – large solar companies, utilities, installers, and the World Bank – and is preparing to scale its activities and compete aggressively for business in large, and previously unserviceable markets.

Mission of the Head of Sales:

• Reporting to the Head of Commercial, the Head of Sales will be responsible for delivering near-term revenue targets, growing sales via new and existing customers.
• You will be fully responsible for the management of customer relations and development of sales leads from initial contact through the pipeline processes, to close and hand-over to Delivery.
• You will lead the sales team to manage sales development and customer contact throughout the process and, together with the Head of Commercial will, in turn, scale the sales team accordingly.

Role expectations:

The Head of Sales will convert the existing sales pipeline into sales, whilst bringing in and developing sales leads to grow the portfolio. The company has in place the technical and legal support to do so, and is tasking the Head of Sales with running the sales unit and growing the sales team. With an established team of dedicated experts in design, production and delivery, we are looking for a strong team player to help build the sales department.

Outcomes:

Reporting to the Head of Commercial, the Head of Sales is expected to achieve the following:

• The achievement of sales in pre-agreed markets, with a focus on ‘repeat’ customers (pre-vetted), with no cap on single order customers.
• The management, operation and improvement of near-term sales processes to enable rapid scaling of the organisation.
• The day-to-day management of the sales unit including management of the sales pipeline in the agreed strategy and direction of the unit in accordance with the agile Kanban principles, supported by Operations.
• In concert with the Head of Research, and the Head of Project Delivery, the management of Stakeholder relationships as it pertains to sales issues.
• Together with the Head of Commercial, development of the hiring strategy of the sales team.
  The further development of sales roll-out and growth strategy.

Experience and skills:

• Sales management experience (5 years minimum), preferably in a relevant solar generation environment (in an IPP, EPC, Solar Developer or a solar generator producer).
• Possibly a module distributor or producer.
• Team management experience, demonstrating a hands on approach, coaching and leading by example. To include goal-setting and monitoring.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to establish, build and maintain customer business relations.
• Outstanding presentation skills to draft, iterate, and present a business case including the development of high-quality powerpoint presentations.
• First rate commercial and negotiation skills to develop, craft, and close sales.
• Demonstrative competency in the organisation and prioritisation of tasks, ideally in a project or program management capacity.
• Able to work cross culturally with different company functional groups and employee levels to achieve results effectively and professionally with a team first mindset.
• The ability to visualize and interpret data, including, forecasting, cash flow, upside/downsides, and financial modelling.
• An under graduate degree in a STEMfield, or the combination of a non-STEM undergraduate degree and a proven ability to understand and clearly communicate heavily quantitative and/or scientific concepts.

In addition the ideal candidate will have:

• An in depth knowledge of Solar generator technology, including solar modules and fixed tilt structures.
• An understanding of the stakeholders and players in the renewable energy business environment.
• Experience in the estimation of solar project costs.
• Operational experience in measuring and improving efficiency, utilization, and scale initiatives.
• Proficiency with database and system development projects including Power BI, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• A customer centric approach to managing and delivering a responsive and professional service.
