Managing Director, Philippines Distributed Energy Resources and Micro Grids
Location :Ortigas, Manila.
Time requirements: This is a full-time role and starts from April 2022.
Remuneration: Comprises competitive base salary, annual performance bonus and equity options in the company.
The company: Fast-growing independent power producer with its global HQ in the US with further offices in Australia, Puerto Rico, South Africa & Switzerland. The company invests in and owns microgrid distributed energy plants which maximize renewable penetration to realize cost savings to customers as well as minimize the carbon footprint to make the earth a better place. Typically supporting off-grid and on-grid loads of 1MW to 30MW. The assets used for a microgrid are a combination of solar, wind, storage, biomass, combined heat and power and fossil fuel generators.
The Role: We are seeking an experienced MD with experience in Solar Integration:
Distributed Energy Resources and Microgrids with an outstanding track record of organizational leadership, programme development, and management of complex projects across a diverse geographic footprint .You will report to the group CEO and will be responsible for driving business development, building the business and laying the foundation for rapid growth. The role requires frequent travel in the region and a great deal of strategic insight while being very hands-on.
With a strong team in place, you are expected to nurture, develop and further build that team, bringing strong leadership. You bring with you a relevant existing network or access to projects and the right mix of strategic vision, first-class business development, tactical planning and gutsy attention to delivery of high-quality projects that leadership and shareholders require. As a member of the global leadership team, you will ensure timely and efficient implementation of strategic directives. You will apply your leadership expertise and bring extensive experience in business leadership, project development, developing and deploying technology and/or services.
Responsibilities: Business Leadership and Operations -Oversee operations within the Philippines. Build a high-performing team including sales, project management, engineering and operations and maintenance that can effectively scale as sales increase. Develop and manage an annual budget, define KPIs and set targets. Drive down system and supply chain costs while enhancing operational effectiveness, working closely with the CEO, COO and CFO and other Managing Directors.
Develop a comprehensive market persona for the company and lead this representation in the marketplace with customers, partners, and investors. Inspire company performance, promoting the mission and goals of the organization. Investigate and lead the analysis of various company growth strategies, including acquisitions or mergers.
Sales and Business Development:
Develop and manage key strategic partnerships. Work closely with the Sales Director and BD team on collation of key data on the market. Build a solid pipeline of bankable projects for evaluation, financing and development. Bring in origination agents and channel partners focused on different sub-geographies and sectors. Implement the tools to monitor and manage pipeline. Implement core processes, bankability review cycles and meet Investment Committee requirements.
Solution Definition:
Work with the global COO to implement project development processes from initiation to asset management. Work closely with the VP Engineering to implement technology or product strategy. Manage business unit processes, including RFP process, supplier negotiations and third-party EPC and O&M contractors in the region. Work closely with local engineering and global VP Engineering to define profitable solutions. Manage local engineering and project development teams.
Develop/manage processes for customer service, health and safety, training, logistics. Create strong transparencies and reporting throughout the company and to the Board.
Qualifications/Experience:
Proven track record of building a business/function and excellence in execution. Existing network in the energy space, bringing access to either project opportunities or existing relationships in sectors such as energy, mining, manufacturing, hospitality, agriculture, remote communities. Understands full energy project lifecycle from lead qualification through operations. Executive-level experience in project development and/or construction environment. Experience in working in regions across the Philippines. Experience with a technology-focused company in the energy sector, an emerging market telecommunications company or infrastructure project development preferred. Expertise in strategic planning, resource allocation, engineering workflows, program leadership and resource management in a development environment. Experience with regulatory affairs in the markets. Experience working with investors and financial counterparties. General understanding of corporate and project finance. Exceptional judgment and decision-making skills. Comfortable working in a dynamic, start-up environment. High moral and professional standards grounded in humility and compassion.
